Everyone sees the same secret word, except the spy. Ask each other questions, find the spy before time runs out, and don't make it too easy.

How the drinking works

    How to play Spy

    1. Add the players and pick one or more categories, the timer and the drinks.
    2. Pass the phone around. Each player taps to see the secret word, then hides it. One player sees "You are the spy" and only the category.
    3. Put the phone in the middle and start asking each other questions about the word. Keep them vague: give too much away and the spy works it out.
    4. Accuse when you think you know who the spy is. If the majority agrees, the phone reveals the truth.
    5. The spy can stop the game at any time and guess the word.

    Drinking rules

    • Too obvious: a question or answer that gives the word away costs the person who said it a sip.
    • Halfway: everyone drinks at once, the spy too. Watch who hesitates.
    • Caught: the spy drinks, but gets one last guess. Guess right and everyone else drinks instead.
    • Wrong accusation: accuse an innocent player and the spy wins. Everyone else drinks.
    • Spy guesses: right and everyone else drinks; wrong and the spy chugs.
    • Two spies: catching one of them is enough. The round ends and both are revealed.
    • Time's up: if the spy is still free, the group gets one final vote.

    How do you play Spy?

    Pass the phone around so everyone can secretly see the word. One player is the spy and only sees the category. Then take turns asking each other questions about the word. Find the spy before the timer runs out, without giving the word away.

    How does the spy win?

    The spy wins if the group accuses an innocent player, during the game or in the final vote when time runs out, or if the spy guesses the word, either by stopping the game or with the last guess after being caught.

    How many players do you need for Spy?

    Spy works from 3 to 12 players. With 8 or more you can play with two spies.

    Can you play Spy without drinking?

    Yes. Choose No drinking in the setup and the game just keeps score of how often the spy and the group win.
